An endodontist is a dentist who specialises in treating the inside of the tooth — the soft pulp containing the nerves and blood vessels. When decay, a crack or injury lets bacteria reach the pulp, it becomes infected, causing severe pain, sensitivity and swelling. Endodontic treatment removes the infection and saves the tooth, so it doesn’t have to be extracted.
Endodontics covers more than the familiar root canal. It includes single-sitting and painless root canal treatment, retreatment of failed or reinfected root canals, post and core buildup to rebuild damaged teeth, and apicoectomy (minor surgery at the root tip) for stubborn infections. The common goal is always the same: to relieve your pain and preserve your natural tooth.
At Dental Paradise in Sodala, Jaipur, Dr. Rakesh Chaudhary (BDS, MDS, Gold Medalist) is an experienced endodontist who uses advanced rotary techniques and digital imaging for precise, comfortable treatment — saving natural teeth that might otherwise be lost.
Signs You Should See an Endodontist
These are the warning signs that the nerve inside a tooth may be infected. If any sound familiar, don’t wait — early treatment saves the tooth.
Severe or Persistent Toothache
Throbbing pain — especially when chewing or lying down — is a classic sign of an infected tooth nerve. Endodontic treatment removes the infection and ends the pain.
Lingering Hot & Cold Sensitivity
If pain from hot or cold lingers for seconds or minutes after the source is gone, the pulp may be damaged and a root canal is often needed.
Deep Decay or a Large Cavity
When decay reaches the nerve, a normal filling isn’t enough. Root canal treatment cleans out the infection and saves the tooth from extraction.
A Cracked or Broken Tooth
A crack can expose the pulp to bacteria and infection. Endodontic treatment, usually followed by a crown, restores and protects the tooth.
Swelling, Pus or a Gum Boil
Swelling around a tooth or a pimple-like bump on the gum signals an abscess. This needs prompt endodontic treatment to clear the infection.
A Failed or Painful Previous Root Canal
A tooth that still hurts after an earlier root canal may need retreatment or apicoectomy. As a specialist, Dr. Chaudhary handles complex and repeat cases.
How Endodontic Treatment Works
Most root canals are completed in one or two visits. Here’s exactly what happens at each stage.
01
Consultation, X-ray & Diagnosis
Dr. Chaudhary examines the tooth, takes a digital X-ray to see the infection and root anatomy, and confirms the right endodontic treatment for you.
20–30 minutes
02
Anaesthesia & Isolation
The tooth is fully numbed with local anaesthesia so you feel no pain. The area is isolated to keep it clean and dry during treatment.
A few minutes
03
Cleaning & Shaping the Canals
The infected pulp is removed and the canals are cleaned, disinfected and shaped using gentle rotary instruments — the core of the procedure.
30–60 minutes
04
Filling & Sealing
The cleaned canals are filled and sealed to prevent reinfection. In suitable cases this is completed in the same visit (single-sitting RCT).
Same or next visit
05
Crown / Final Restoration
A crown is usually fitted over the treated tooth to protect and strengthen it, restoring full function and a natural look.
1–2 visits
Most cases: 1–2 visits · Single-sitting RCT available for suitable teeth · Crown recommended afterwards for long-term protection.
